Welcome to Degrowthuary: A Different Kind of Abundance
Imagine a life with less clutter, less waste, and fewer distractions—a life that unlocks something extraordinary: freedom. Freedom to live lighter, to reconnect with what truly matters, and to reimagine how we thrive together.
In a world obsessed with "more," Degrowthuary dares to explore the power of "less"—not as a sacrifice, but as a path to abundance. Abundance of time, creativity, and connection. It’s about questioning the systems that fuel overconsumption and making small, intentional shifts that ripple into lasting change.
Our economy thrives on constant growth, yet this relentless pursuit leads to exploitation, inequality, and environmental destruction. The wealthiest consume far beyond the planet’s limits while many struggle to meet basic needs. Degrowth offers a way forward—one where resources are shared equitably, well-being is prioritized over profit, and sustainability replaces excess.
This February, join us for 28 daily challenges designed to help you rethink consumption, build community, and embrace a lifestyle rooted in meaning, not materialism. Together, we can advocate for systemic change and shape a future that values people and the planet over profit.

We live in a growth-based economy driven by ever-increasing production and consumption. This system causes human exploitation, inequality, and environmental destruction on a massive scale. Wealthy nations and individuals are rapidly depleting finite resources, while many are left with too little to meet their basic needs.
Degrowth is a way out of this mess. By democratically managing resources, we can meet everyone’s needs and improve well-being while reducing overall consumption and respecting the environment. It's time to envision a different future.
This week’s challenges are about building awareness, reflecting on habits that don’t serve us, and understanding the impact of our own habits on our surroundings.
We’re excited to have you join us—here are this week’s challenges to get started!
In a world that emphasises growth at any cost, the pioneers of the degrowth movement are showing us a different way forward—one rooted in creativity, collaboration, and less consumption. This week, we’re celebrating the individuals and organisations championing degrowth through tangible, everyday actions that inspire change.
From borrowing instead of buying to repairing instead of replacing, these ideas invite us to rethink consumption and explore new ways to share, repurpose, and sustain the resources we already have. Whether it’s visiting your local library, attending a clothes swap, or supporting a foodsharing initiative, there are countless opportunities to join this movement and make an impact in your community.
Challenge yourself this week to go out and meet real-life degrowthers and do your part to educate your friends and followers about the work of awesome degrowthers worldwide - scroll down to #MeetTheDegrowthers.
As we step into Week 3 of Degrowthuary, it’s time to shift perspectives—not just about consumption, but about life itself. What if time with friends and family, creativity, and community care were at the centre of how we measure success?
This week, we invite you to reimagine joy, connection, and solidarity outside of a world built on constant productivity and consumption. Instead of chasing “more,” let’s focus on what truly nourishes us—whether that’s a shared meal, an afternoon lost in a creative hobby, or simply taking a break to be present.
